Solving your employment Problems

Has your work environment become hostile?

On Behalf of | Sep 21, 2022 | Workplace discrimination |

Every workplace involves a certain amount of pressure. Employees have to ensure that goods and services are provided to the highest standards, and supervisors are tasked with overseeing this.

Nonetheless, there is a difference between normal workplace pressure and a hostile environment. Essentially, a hostile environment involves the workspace being so toxic that the employee no longer feels able to do their job. What are some of the more common causes of a hostile working environment?

Bullying and harassment

Supervisors must be assertive at times to ensure that they are getting the best out of everyone. However, this doesn’t mean that they can be aggressive or criticize employees unfairly. If you are working as hard as possible and meeting the demands of your job description, then there is no reason why you should be written up for disciplinary action. Unfair criticism is a form of workplace bullying, and it can result in a hostile work environment.

Discrimination

The modern workplace should be accommodating for individuals of all creeds and backgrounds. Whether you’re elderly, disabled, from a religious background or any other characteristic, you should not be singled out or treated unfairly. Discriminatory conduct at work can be very damaging to those on the receiving end, and it is also unlawful.

If you think that your rights as an employee have been violated, then there are several options open to you. Obtaining some legal guidance on the matter will help you recognize what you need to do next.
